Latest Ofsted Report

The school was last inspected on the 18th June 2008.

An extract of the report was: -

QUALITY OF EDUCATION FOR PUPILS AT HAPPY AND CARING LANDULPH SCHOOL IS PRAISED BY GOVERNMENT INSPECTORS

The “outstanding” care provided to pupils at Landulph School has been praised in a positive report by Ofsted Inspectors. The report also highlights the commitment of staff, the overall quality of teaching, the good behaviour of pupils and their positive attitudes towards learning and the overwhelming support from parents and the wider community.

“Pastoral care is outstanding, with the safety of pupils being a priority of the school. The school is a happy, safe place where all staff take great pride in caring for their pupils.  Pupils’ attitudes and behaviour are good, and they show great enjoyment in coming to school.”

The report notes the improvements made since the last inspection and concludes that the school demonstrates a satisfactory capacity to improve further.

This school is satisfactory. The steady progress made by most pupils is a direct consequence of satisfactory teaching and a sound curriculum.  Teachers relate well to pupils and their subject knowledge is secure”

 Headteacher Beth Worth said ………

I am delighted with many aspects of the Inspection report which, based on historical data, is a fair and constructive reflection of the school. I would like to thank all the parents for their positive support and commitment to our school and all the staff who work tirelessly for the benefit of every pupil.

From my perspective I know that Landulph School is moving forward in many different ways and there is clear evidence to support this statement to show that we are a rapidly improving school.

The report praises the overall quality of teaching and learning, and the achievement and standards attained by pupils. Teachers provide interesting lessons for pupils, using a good range of resources and strategies. Classes are well managed and relationships are a strength. As a result, pupils are well behaved, keen to learn and ready to work hard. They also enjoy their learning”.

It also commends the very good provision for pupils’ personal development, the wide range of educational outings and extra curricular activities, which it says, adds well to pupils’ enjoyment of school, and the good provision for pupils with learning difficulties and / or disabilities.

The Inspectors also praise the organisation and administration of the school.

"The Headteacher, effectively supported by other staff members, is successful in creating a positive and very caring atmosphere , where pupils feel safe and greatly enjoy their education.  There is a determination among staff to raise achievement ".

Pupils are described as well behaved and displaying positive attitudes towards learning.  "Pupils behave well and have very sensible attitudes to their work".  Pupils say that they like school very much and this is reflected in their good attendance and their evident enjoyment.

The school’s links with parents and the wider community are commended.

“Parents hold overwhelmingly positive views about the school, and they support it well.  One said, typically, ‘ I have nothing but praise for the school and what it offers’ . Parents say that the staff are very helpful when problems arise, and they much appreciate the way in which their children are cared for”

The Inspectors also identified areas of action for governors and staff to raise standards further:  including ensuring that teachers consistently provide challenging work for pupils, providing more opportunities for pupils to develop their numeracy and literacy skills and improving the quality of marking and target setting to ensure that pupils understand clearly how to improve their work.

Chairman of Governors Graeme Richards said …..

I am delighted that the core values that have been instilled in the school have now been formally recognised and that the continued development of Landulph School is based on a very sound foundation. I am very proud to be part of a team that shares such a strong commitment to the education of all our pupils.
