Landulph is praised as a good and happy school in positive report from Ofsted inspectors
Landulph has been praised as a good school with a happy, vibrant and friendly atmosphere and motivated and enthusiastic pupils in a positive report from Ofsted Inspectors.
The report notes the improvements which have been made to both the attainment and progress of pupils and the resources and facilities available to boost learning since the last inspection and concludes that this good track record of improvement, coupled with the energetic teamwork and strong commitment of staff and governors, means that the school has a good capacity for sustained improvement.
"This is a good school that ensures pupils do well both socially and academically. The headteacher, staff and governors are passionate about getting the best for the pupils. There is a strong feeling of teamwork across the school.
"Pupils' achievement is good and they make good progress as they move up the school. This good progress is the result of the good teaching and excellent care, guidance and support that pupils receive.
"Staff know the pupils very well and cater sensitively for all individual needs. Parents and carers have a high regard for the work of the staff, particularly in respect of the support that their children receive.
Headteacher Beth Worth said "I am delighted with the outcome of the Ofsted Inspection - I believe that it truly reflects the school and shows the immense improvement since the last inspection in 2008.
"From my perspective as Headteacher it is so apparent how a determined and dedicated team of people can make such a significant difference to drive the school forward, improving the teaching and learning environment and extending opportunities for all the pupils at Landulph School."
The report praises the school's good curriculum 'and the overall quality of teaching and learning. "Pupils do well in all subjects. Teachers make learning fun in many lessons. They use a good range of resources and different approaches to make work lively and interesting and make the greatest possible use of the small school family atmosphere to help all individuals stay on track with both their academic and personal development.
The Inspectors also praise the organisation and administration of the school. "The school is successful because of the strong leadership of the Headteacher. She has created an atmosphere in which all staff and governors work energetically together to keep the momentum of improvement moving.
"The school is fortunate to have a skilled group of governors who provide strong support, commit a good deal of their time and closely monitor and evaluate the school's performance.
Pupils are described as well behaved and displaying positive attitudes towards learning. " Pupils' good behaviour is the basis of the good working atmosphere in all classes, with pupils applying themselves diligently. Pupils become confident and enthusiastic learners. They are good at working together and supporting each other. "
The school's links with parents and the wider community are commended. "Most parents and carers are pleased with the school's work. Positive comments included ' We are very happy with the care and standard of education' , ' our child enjoys school very much' and ' Staff are very friendly and welcoming and happy to discuss any issued".
"The school makes good efforts to link with the local community and with communities further afield".
The Inspectors identified just two areas of action for governors and staff to raise standards further : to improve the quality of pupil's writing and to build on the current success in working with the local community by developing a fully comprehensive plan to promote community cohesion in the future.
Chairman of Governors Ray Oatham said "This is a very pleasing report in which the Inspectors have recognised Landulph as being a Good School. There is strong determination from staff and Governors to continue providing a good education for our children. We are fully committed to acting upon the two areas, highlighted by the Inspectors, for improvement".
