Trip to Morwellham Quay
The following reports were written by children in
Class 2 after their trip to
Morwellham Quay.
The Trip
Class
Two started working on the Victorians on the 5th September, 8 weeks
later they decided to find out more by going to Morwellham Quay.
Their first activity was dressing up as a Victorian in their Sunday
Best, while they were dressing up, a girl had to pair up with a boy
and have their photos taken. After they finished, Class Two took
their clothes off.
Then
they got onto a train that went into the copper mine, a man called
Rick drove the train. In-side the mine was pitch black when Rick
first stopped the train I thought we broke down! When Rick started
the train again there was a great big jolt and the train moved on.
Water came in the mine because the mine is deep under-ground. So the
helpers or Morwellham put a pump under the ground to stop the mine
flooding, to work the pump there is a water wheel to make
electricity. After the cooper mine we had lunch, and then we played
in the park, after we had all finished we went rope making it was
really hard. At on end of the spiral half of the group went up to
the top and turned the spiral anti-clockwise to twist the rope the
make it solid, the other half of the group went to the bottom and
twisted the other spiral clock-wise to make it stronger. The rope
was to short so all the children played tug-of-war, it was really
fun, then we collected the rope.
On our journey home we all talked about Morwellham
Quay. My favourite part was playing tug-of-war.
